It was June 2018 when a man from Indiana, United States, made a decision that shook the foundations of morality and compassion.

Cosmo, a small mix of Labrador Retriever, and Sam, a Pointer, were about to face a terrible fate.

Their bonds with the owner, stretched for almost a decade, were abruptly and cruelly severed.

The reason? A simple inconvenience in the man’s life. A girlfriend allergic to dogs, a change of scenery.

To him, Cosmo and Sam were nothing more than a disposable burden, a dispensable part of his life. Instead of finding a humane and compassionate solution, he opted for an inhumane solution: convenience euthanasia.

But luck was on the side of these poor dogs. A kind-hearted veterinarian refused to carry out the request, recognizing the injustice and cruelty of this sentence.

And so, Cosmo and Sam found a new path thanks to the intervention of fate.

Directed to Begin Again Rescue Co (BARC), a non-profit dog rescue, their journey towards redemption began.

Under the dedicated and loving care of BARC volunteers, Cosmo and Sam began to heal the emotional wounds left by abandonment, rediscovering the joy of playing, eating, and living.

But the road to true happiness was still ahead.

Despite the challenges of finding a home for two elderly dogs, the universe conspired in their favor once again.

PAWS Tinley Park, a no-kill animal shelter, extended their generous hand, offering a safe and loving refuge for Cosmo and Sam.

And then, in December 2018, the story had a happy ending. Eric and Tiffany Dybas, a couple who had faced the loss of their own canine companion, opened their hearts to Cosmo and Sam.

In a gesture of love and compassion, they offered a permanent and welcoming home for these two four-legged heroes.

Thanks to the love and dedication of the Dybas and the intervention of rescue institutions like PAWS Tinley Park, Cosmo and Sam finally found the home they deserved.
